NORTH BEACH/TELEGRAPH HILL LANDSLIDE

null
February 27, 2007— According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a 75-foot-wide chunk of Telegraph Hills gave way this morning, sending an avalanche of rocks into buildings on Broadway and rendering seven structures uninhabitable. Residents of a building on Vallejo Street above a rock slide near Telegraph Hill were evacuated.

SHORT-TERM HOUSING NEEDS

Telegraph Hill Dwellers have put out an announcement asking for help for those people dislocated as a result of the landslide:

THD Members:

We are calling upon you to help displaced North Beach residents. As you may know by now, a large landslide between Broadway and Vallejo early this morning has displaced 50+ residents and caused 100+ units to be evacuated and red-tagged.

You can do many things to help:

  • If you own or rent in a condo/apartment building that has a vacant unit, check with your landlord or HOA Board to see if they will allow a displaced resident to live free of rent for a week or two. If so, get in touch with the temporary shelter residents are currently being routed to the Chinese Recreation Center (415-292-2017).

  • Offer meals/supplies to the temporary shelter at the Chinese Recreation Center at Mason/Washington (415-292-2017).

  • Donate to the Red Cross by calling 415-427-8000.

    • For more information as it becomes available to us, please see the thd website:www.thd.org.
