Ads on The Barbary Coast News appear along the right-hand column of nearly every page. Because space is limited, complicated, large-scale ads don’t translate well to the advertising spaces. It's easy and inexpensive to advertise on Barbary Coast News. All ads must be paid in advance.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ADVERTISE ON BARBARY COAST NEWS?
Advertising Rates (months run consecutively)
- $600 12-month commitment ($50 per month)
- $450 6-month commitment ($75 per month)
- $300 3-month commitment ($100 per month)
WHAT DOES A BARBARY COAST NEWS AD CONSIST OF?
You’ll need to address four elements for your Barbary Coast News ad:
1) a boldface headline at the top of the ad
2) the body in lighter type
3) your name
4) a link to your web address.
There should be no more than 50 words total. If you don't have a web site, we can display your company name, address, and phone number.
WILL YOU EDIT MY AD?
We’ll edit your ad for style, suitability, compliance with our guidelines. You’ll have a chance to review any changes before the ad goes live.
WHAT RULES MUST MY AD FOLLOW?
All advertising on Barbary Coast News must comply with our Terms of Use and with our Advertising Guidelines (below).
WHAT'S THE PROCESS?
1. Create your ad using these four elements:
- Headline: Briefly get the readers' attention.
- Message: What do you want them to do and why? Don't include any formatting.
- Name: Your business or website name (this will be linked to your web address).
- Web address: http://sitename.com. (See example ad in the Real Estate section of Barbary Coast News.)
2. Carefully examine the approval copy of your ad we email you. Check for spelling and numbers. Email your approval to editor@SFbcnews.com.
3. As soon as we have your final approval and check, we’ll schedule your ad.

ADVERTISING GUIDELINES
The following guidelines give you some idea of the criteria we apply before approving an ad. All ads must meet our Terms of Use and will be reviewed. Recommended changes will be shown to the advertiser before the insertion order is executed.
1. Use correct punctuation and capitalization: use exclamation points sparingly and correctly. Capitalize only proper nouns, the beginnings of lines, or words in headlines. Don’t capitalize all the letters in any word.
2. Use correct spelling and grammar.
3. Keep it short.
4. Support competitive claims: If you claim to be #1 in San Francisco, cite an independent source.
5. Your link should be your company name.
6. Use language that is appropriate for all audiences.
7. The page that your ad links to will be considered for appropriateness. You may not link to a page that generates a pop-up or disables the back button.

By using Barbary Coast News, you agree to the following terms of service. We’ve tried to make them as simple as possible, while protecting our rights and those of our users.
1. The Barbary Coast News has made available to the community a web site featuring news, bulletin boards, classifieds, advertising, and a lot of other information. This site is the property of The Barbary Coast News, and The Barbary Coast News may determine its own editorial policy for the site.
2. Anything you post on The Barbary Coast News is your responsibility.
3. The Barbary Coast News doesn’t pre-screen content before it is posted, but we have sole discretion on interpreting these rules and determining compliance.
4. In using this site, you may be exposed to things that have not been reviewed by us, or are offensive, inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise objectionable. We can’t be responsible for the contents of any site that is linked from The Barbary Coast News.
5. You agree not to post content that is illegal, threatening, abusive, defamatory, pornographic, deceptive, false, misleading, or disruptive. These terms are defined at The Barbary Coast News’s discretion.
6. You agree not to send unsolicited commercial email to addresses on The Barbary Coast News or through our computers. You agree not to post advertising or commercial messages except in areas reserved for ads. The definition of advertising and commercial is at our discretion.
7. The Barbary Coast News can set limits on what you can do on our system, how much you can post to it, and how often you can use it. We can deactivate your account, block your address, or otherwise keep you off the system at our discretion. We don’t take any responsibility for information that is lost or deleted from the system.
8. You agree to accept responsibility for your dealings with other users and not to hold The Barbary Coast News responsible for the conduct of people you’ve met through our site.
9. You agree to give us the right to reproduce on The Barbary Coast News any content you post on the site.
10. Please report any violations of the Terms, by flagging the posting(s) for review, or by emailing editor@sfbcnews.com. Our failure to act on a particular breach does not waive our right to act on subsequent or similar breaches.
